Steven B. Harris, MD, just reproduced passages from a 15-page plea
for contributions from Ellison (co-author of a book with Duesberg)
to pay for legal fees because Ellison is being sued (by Duesberg).
All I can say is: RES IPSA LOQUITUR.
Bravo, Steve.

For David Mertz’ sake, you should note that the Latin means: "The thing
speaks for itself." And yeah, I thought so, too.

The Harris machine posted:

Hmmm… I confess that my Latin is a little rusty. But I suspect that,
even rusty, there are people who know still less Latin than I do. (and
isn’t it a rather *arcane* and *ecclesiastical* insult to accuse me of
not knowing Latin, in any event?). Anyway, thanks for the translation.
The question remaining, of course, is: Can Harris pass the Turing test?
Yours, Lulu…

I must confess that the below is a post by Steve Harris that I genuinely
*enjoyed*. A welcome tone for the AI.
Sandra Russell (sruss…@ix.netcom.com) wrote:

Just for the record, res ipsa loquitor was a phrase which, however rusty,
my Latin knowledge sufficed for. But I am sure that if Harris and all
would like to start discussing the literary qualities of Virgil, he could
manage to lose me on the translations.

Actually, the hit wasn’t QUITE random. After Amittai’s post on Usenet
argument, I was rather reminded of the AI observation frequently being
directed against a certain ‘David Sternlight’ on various cryptology
newsgroups… and was thereby drawn to the compelling similarities
between the Sternlight and Harris machines… both the tone, verbosity
and vehement defense of official beliefs are shared between them… but
there’s something more… it’s hard to put one’s finger on it… but they
both sound similarly ‘tinny’. .. somehow like that ancient ELIZA program
(no relation to the ‘AIDS test’ AFAIK).
Yours, Lulu (who still wants to be accused of being artificial, having
felt so gratified at being called cacophonic by Scutero).
