SUBJECT: My Uncle Paul
On Wednesday, July 5, my Step-Uncle Paul Plauche passed away after his
mostly successful ten year fight against this virus. It is not possible
to list all the good and selfless acts of his life, but after hearing
them, I truly regret not having known him better but become even prouder
to call him a member of my family. In his honor, I wanted to share a few
special words from a speech he once delivered:
"In all its horror, AIDS, like any life threatening illness is another
disease – no more, no less. It is not symbolic of anything. There are
not "victims," because there is no crime. There are no "innocents,"
because there are no "guilty," and no blame, because there has been no
intention to cause harm. There are only sick men, women and children,
all of whom need your help."
Paul S. Plauche (7/15/39 – 7/5/95)
Excerpt from Keynote speech
World AIDS Day, December 1, 1994
Reprinted here by his step-nephew, C. Joseph Wusnack, New Orleans, LA,
with a personal thank-you to him, his partner Richard all his friends and
especially the New Orleans No AIDS Task Force, who have inspired me into
a higher pro-active stance.
